Presuppostions

NLP makes a number of presuppositions. Presuppositions or assumptions are the beliefs a person will find useful in effecting changes to themselves and/or to the world. (Some people call these as the "givens".)

Examples of presuppositions:

  1. Communication is more than what you are saying.
  2. No one is wrong or broken. People work perfectly to accomplish what they are currently accomplishing.
  3. People already have all the resources they need.
  4. Behind every behavior is a positive intention.
  5. Every behavior is useful in some context.
  6. The meaning of a communication is the response you get.
  7. If you aren't getting the response you want, try something different.
  8. There is no such thing as failure. There is only feedback.
  9. Having choice is better than having no choice at all.
  10. In any system, the element with the most flexibility exerts the most influence.
  11. The map is not the territory.
  12. If someone can do something, anyone can learn it.
  13. You cannot fail to communicate.

Such a touching piece of music, so caring are the words... I've just caught myself crooning and humming it all day long...

Always On Your Side

My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away
But every now and then you come to mind
'Cause you were always waiting to be picked to play the game
But when your name was called, you found a place to hide
When you knew that I was always on your side.

Well everything was easy then, so sweet and innocent
My demons and my angels reappeared
Leavin' only traces of the man you thought I'd be
Too afraid to hear the words I'd always feared
Leavin' you with so many questions all these years.

Is there some place far away, some place where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are you left to wander, all alone, eternally
This isn't how it's really meant to be
No, it isn't how it's really meant to be.

Well they say that love is in the air, but never is it clear,
How to pull it close and make it stay
Butterflies are free to fly, and so they fly away
And I'm left to carry on and wonder why
Even through it all, I'm always on your side.

Is there some place far away, some place where all is clear
Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear
Or are we left to wander, all alone, eternally ?
But this isn't how it's really meant to be
No, it isn't how it's really meant to be.

Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear
How to pull it close and make it stay
Butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away ?
Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why
Was it you that kept me wandering through this life ?
When you know that I was always on your side.

I knew it would be this way, it had always been before, and yet I did it...

I wonder how other people can manage it... perhaps they don't feel it that way... perhaps it's me who is not normal... does it exactly mean being shy?.. I don't know... It's the sense of doing something wrong, something that must never be done that hurts... It feels like something very precious is now in ruins, and can never be restored... Something precious inside myself... Anyway, it'll never be the same now...

Longing to be sheltered...

Talking from experience: having flung myself into chatting on the Internet I got so preoccupied with composing emails and messages, posting on forums, writing snail-mail letters, meeting people of different cultural background that now I really feel exhausted.

All I wish now is to fling all those unfinished letters into fire and to get flung out of all those social nets that were initially designed for dating. ('Dirty business!' she flung her hands up in disgust watching the pictures of young girls ready to get flung off their last clothes to make anyone fling himself at them.)

On one of my favourite forums I came across an aged man with so poor manners that I could hardly endure. We flung bitter accusations at each other and I had to reduce my posting there to a couple of threads only, yet now he is flinging me out quite vigorously. I don't have the nerve to stay there...

Well, I consider all that as the last fling before starting a new term :) Obviously it has brought in some worthy experience and knowledge, anyway I am happy it's all over, and now I can do things I am really into :)

ps. I enjoyed talking to some decent people, luckly they are very few, so I am almost sure I'll be able to handle it in future :)

Phew, I hope I got it right :)

Did you know that,

one of the most popular "Russian" songs of the WWII "Мы летим ковыляя во мгле..." sung be Utesov, was in fact originally written by Jimmy McHugh, 1894-1969 and supposed to be American war pilots' song. Compare:

One of our planes was missing
Two hours overdue
One of our planes was missing
With all its gallant crew
The radio sets were humming
We waited for a word
Then a noise broke
Through the humming and this is what we heard

Comin' in on a wing and a prayer
Comin' in on a wing and a prayer
Though there's one motor gone
We can still carry on
Comin' in on a wing and a prayer

What a show, what a fight, boys
We really hit our target for tonight
How we sing as we limp through the air
Look below, there's our field over there
With just one motor gone
We can still carry on
Comin' in on a wing and a prayer

Comin' in on a wing and a prayer
Comin' in on a wing and a prayer
With our full crew on board
And our trust in the Lord
We're comin' in on a wing and a prayer

Dearest PR (ПЧ),
What are your ideas of being happy?

As for me, it means a caring husband, my parents being alive (despite their illnesses), a nice letter from a nephew, knowing that my friend on the other part of the globe is ok, the second major holiday in Russia ahead, having my colleagues on-line and easy to connect with (in case I am going to truant my school - lol), very romantic music on :), lots of nice presents :), unabling my witch to harm us any more, no matter how hard she tries LOL LOL LOL :)

Long ago, about last month I was told that my English is out-of-date, not modern and not English at all. The most dreadful thing was that I knew it was true, and another crusial thing concerned the person who opened my eyes on my English. :( Poor I was crying desperately all nights till I found quite a modern book by Tony Parsons 'Man and Wife' (first published in 2002). Now that I've read it up to the end, I may say that I sort of like it. Can't say it's a masterpiece, yet it was rather pleasant to read mostly because it deals with marriage, family life, love, children and other human values. I wish I had now the most up-to-date English, however I guess I should read other books by the same author to get the most natural command of the language (^_^)

Actually, what I was going to post today is not about the language. The thing that struck me was the following:

He wrote: 'That's how fragile all this is, as gossamer thin as a spider's web, as intricate and fragile as that, meticulously built but easy torn apart by a few cruel, casual blows. My parents' marriage looked like it was made of sterner stuff. My mum and dad genuinely believed that they couldn't be happy with anyone else. And I knew that wasn't true for me. I could have been happy with Kazumi (his girlfriend). Just as Kazumi could find the human bond we all seek with some other man. And just as Cyd (his wife) could have found someone else to love her. That didn't make what I had with my wife feel like nothing. In some ways the knowledge that either of us could survive without the other made what we had seem even more precious. We stayed together because we chose to stay together. In the world full of choices, we chose each other. '

For me it sounded like a thunderstorm on a nice sunny day. Why on Earth people are bound to live together? It's so evident now :) because they chose to live with each other :pink: Is there love in it? I don't really know, it just feels comfortable to think of choices we made :)

Love is merely madness...
William Shakespeare

Love is a serious mental disease.
Plato

Since love grows within you, so beauty grows.
For love is the beauty of the soul.

St. Augustine

Love seems the swiftest,
but it is the slowest of growths.
No man or woman really knows
what perfect love
is until they have been married a quarter of a century.

Mark Twain

So, that's what it's all about :) Love, feelings, emotions... and deeds, because love is dead without deeds.

Why, where, how love is born inside a human? Is it an in-born quality that grows up with age? Does it dwell in the heart, in mind or both? Is everyone able to love? If yes, then to what extend? If no, then why do people speak about broken hearts?

Does love include only two? If to love means to care, then is it possible to love more than one person? Can we also love a friend, a brother, a parent? Or there should be another word for it?

Long ago I came across this definition of Love that I was captured by as it looks universal, true to everyone and everything, and much deeper and high above our everyday life. It feels wonderful because it's not restricted to two people only but speaks about the whole mankind:

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy.
Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude;
It is not self-seeking, nor easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongdoing.
It does not delight in evil,
But rejoices in the truth.
It always protects, trusts, hopes, and preserves.
There is nothing love cannot face;
There is no limit to its faith, hope, and endurance.
In a word, there are three things that last forever:
Faith, hope, and love;
But the greatest of them all is love.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

And what is happiness then, if not to be loved in that way? And what is the most desperate pain if not to be able to love in that way?

Is it not the desire to love that makes a person happy? If yes, then can a person be happy if he loves too many people in his life? It's not the feeling of guiltiness that bothers him, it's mostly the necessity to choose between the dearest people that hurts.

"The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost." ( G.K. Chesterton ) seems to be the right manual in our world, rather cold and selfish. It gives the sence of achieving something really eternal and beautiful...
:unic:

This lovely poem is quite for the season)) It has been snowing in Moscow and it feels so warm and cosy at home...

Bewitching Snow

It’s crazy how bewitching it is tonight
Everything’s frosted and still
The whole world is holding its breath
As we crunch through the softness
Hand in hand.
The purple-grey sky is a blanket
and the world sleeps underneath
with sugar-plum branches
and sugar-snow icing
that frosts everything
magical.
The powdered ice-sugar
sifts down
catching my eyelashes as I look up
the air turns your breath to frost as you lean in
and your hand is warm in mine.

It’s crazy how bewitching you are tonight
As we lay here so close and so still
I feel your touch and I’m holding my breath
As we look to the future
Hand in hand.
Tangled here in this blanket
wrapped tight in your arms underneath.
The touch of your skin
the scent of your breath
suddenly everything’s
magical.
Your soft lips
graze mine
catching my eyelashes as I look down
the night dances with our breath as we lean in
and your heart is warm next to mine.

- Gina Giacopuzzi -

That's how we spent the new year midnight:
singing out loud old songs,
thanks to the fireworks the neighbours could not hear us singing
lol

It's been seven hours and fifteen days
Since you took your love away

I go out every night and sleep all day

Since you took your love away

Since you been gone I can do whatever I want

I can see whomever I choose

I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant

But nothing ...

I said nothing can take away these blues,

'Cause nothing compares ...

Nothing compares to you

It's been so lonely without you here

Like a bird without a song

Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling

Tell me baby where did I go wrong?

I could put my arms around every boy I see

But they'd only remind me of you

went to the doctor guess what he told me

Guess what he told me?

He said, girl, you better have fun

No matter what you do

But he's a fool ...

'Cause nothing compares ...

Nothing compares to you ...

All the flowers that you planted, mama

In the back yard

All died when you went away

I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard

But I'm willing to give it another try

'Cause nothing compares ...

Nothing compares to you

Happy New year 2010!

No more champagne
And the fireworks are through
Here we are, me and you
Feeling lost and feeling blue
Its the end of the party
And the morning seems so grey
So unlike yesterday
Nows the time for us to say...

Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbour is a friend
Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we dont we might as well lay down and die
You and i

Sometimes I see
How the brave new world arrives
And I see how it thrives
In the ashes of our lives
Oh yes, man is a fool
And he thinks hell be okay
Dragging on, feet of clay
Never knowing hes astray
Keeps on going anyway...

Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbour is a friend
Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we dont we might as well lay down and die
You and i

Seems to me now
That the dreams we had before
Are all dead, nothing more
Than confetti on the floor
Its the end of a decade
In another ten years time
Who can say what well find
What lies waiting down the line
In the end of eighty-nine...

Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbour is a friend
Happy new year
Happy new year
May we all have our hopes, our will to try
If we dont we might as well lay down and die
You and I.
