Curiosity is the very basis of education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat, I say only the cat died nobly.
It's not that I don't know the meaning of the word, it's that I'm wondering if other people are not allusive talking to strangers.

Oh, yes, strangers are so helpful to talk to. In prehistoric times people used to pick up a hungry/thirsty stranger at railway stations, and while they were feeding him/or drinking with him they would talk themselves out, and then returned home as if anew. Now that we are enjoying the Internet, it's a matter of 2 secs to find the right person. You don't even have to feed him or drink with him, you don't even have to watch, smell or touch him. And, if by any chance you said too much, or the person is not good enough for another talk, you can block him out. It really looks as easy as that.

And, yet, regarding this, do people tend to be open, do they really want to reveal their secrets? I fairly doubt they do. I don't mean those who is sort of advertising him/herself. I mean common people wandering through web pages, chatting here and there...

'Hi, how are you?' - 'Fine, and you?' - 'Fine, thnx' - isn't it the first trap leading somewhere away from what is real? Oh, I know these phrases should be practised ten thousand times at least to be uttered with ease, if one cares to sound English. Yet, isn't it the first allusion implying 'I don't want to know much about you, don't bother telling me your problems'? Does anyone happen to know the right answer to 'I am not well/sick/etc'?.. It's 'Oh, no!' :-(

A human was made to be sociable. People who is not are called autists. It's really dreadful to be left out in the cold. However it's desperate to do it on your own... While part of me is longing to be with others, the other one will never come out of itself. Is it human, or is it only me going mad?

So, does anyone know what it really means being allusive?

For me it means indirect, but I'm not sure.
Recently I've come across an educative video about English traditional character and it says that common English people are allusive quite often. They've got small talks and unnatural politeness. But I don't know whether to believe it or not 'cause I've never been to England.
As far as I see Russian people can be quite allusive too and not necessarily in the web but talking to you within eye contact. Everyone might be indirect and insincere in their speech. I can be too.
You know, it's just a matter of "politeness" in many peoples' cultures but I can't take it. I like subcultures like hippie and some others because they seem to be more "informal" in their communication to oppose themselves to the traditional culture. I try to hold to their communicative model as much as I can even though it's a bit naive.

Sure, being allusive means not being direct in manner or language or behaviour or action, you were quite right.

Is being naive/informal the opposite to it, I am not sure. They are not exactly of the same rank. I mean, a naive person in informal communication may drop hints here and there, may avoid answering direct questions...

Ah, I feel I am polluting the air again...

What I am trying to explain to smn is that pretty often being allusive implies some want of being safe and protected, otherwise it hurts.
For example, I have a next-door relation who is willing to know everything about me and actually making me invent new words to keep my life private. On the other hand, sometimes it might be rather demanding to speak directly... Well, just imagine one building a house, he wouldn't start with the roof, eh? or, building a country house he wouldn't decorate it with gems...or, perhaps, someone is too greedy to show his/her treasure to everyone ;)

Kumin

The same as me LOL

too much wants to get out and too little is available LOL

yet, long ago I discovered that I am the very rare type of people who mustn't write anything down, in case they do, they will never remember it :)
so to say, all that stuff can be either in my poor head or written here :) I prefer to have it here, no matter how odd it might look. at least my head is ok now and ready for tomorrow :)

Dear Kumin, thanks for the discussion :)
